2. Return from Kobol

Gaius couldn’t believe it. There had been nobody there to meet him when he had stepped off the rescue Raptor onto the hanger deck of the Galactica. Not one person inquiring over the health and well being of the Vice President of the Colonies. It was beyond absurd. What was this ragtag civilisation coming to?

There was however a large crowd of knuckledraggers who had flooded the decks to welcome home Chief Tyrol, Cally and Seelix with blankets and embraces. Yes, they were all so relieved to see that the bloody technicians had returned alive and so crushed when they broke the news about the sad fates of Tarn and Socinus. Gaius had drifted into a lonely shadowed corner of the hanger deck; glaring at them, forgotten and estranged. The happy reunion was broken up by an armed escort who arrived to take the Chief to the brig for questioning over his relationship with Sharon Valerii.

As soon as he heard that name, Gaius fled from the decks, hurrying up ladders and along corridors to get back to his quarters. If Valerii had been unmasked as a cylon agent then it wouldn’t be long before they came knocking on his door, demanding to know why his detection test had failed and dragging him down to the cells to examine the specimen. Gaius was in no mood for this business. His face was slicked with sweat and blood. The explosions were still ringing in his ears. He could still smell the gun powder in his nostrils. The first time he had fired a weapon. The first time he had taken a life. He didn’t regret it. He had done it to save the others. But the act itself still sickened and disturbed him.

Gaius stepped through the door to find his quarters empty. He had hoped at least to find his Six waiting for him. He had wanted to see her lying in his bed, wearing that dazzling little red number; all eager to take advantage of this brief window of private time that remained to him. Down on the planet she had been a wise and terrifying angel to him. His fear of her was slowly diminishing his lust, but he still needed her. He still needed someone.

Gaius sighed into the silence, bowing his head and pinching his brow.

“Oh, thank the Gods...” gasped a voice at his door. “You’re alright…”

Gaius barely had time to raise his eyes and turn around, before his arms were full of Felix Gaeta. The young officer hugged him tightly whilst wheezing for breath against his shoulder. He patted Gaius twice on the back, before letting him go and retreating a pace; struggling to regain his composure. Gaius smiled faintly. It still wounded his pride that Gaeta was the only crewman to welcome him back, but he was touched there was at least one person in this loathsome fleet who cared to check on him.

“I…I’m sorry, Doctor,” Gaeta said, flushing. “I didn’t mean to burst in on you. I...I’ve just been so worried. We would have sent a rescue party sooner, but we…we lost the fleet. I lost them. It was my fault. I was supposed to update the jump co-ordinates, but I forgot to transmit them. So then I had to network the computers to calculate the fleet’s position. I followed your navigation system the best I could. I’m sure I broke the connection before they penetrated the firewall, but...but now the computers are all twitchy. I’ve probably made things worse. Frak. This is all my fault...”

Gaeta looked worn out and close to tears. He rubbed his temples in slow circles, trying to settle his fraying nerves. Gaius’s arms hung stiff at his sides. He didn’t have the energy to comfort him.

“It’s not your fault, Mr Gaeta…” Gaius managed flatly. “These things happen. You’re not responsible.”

Gaeta shook his head, rapidly. “If we make mistakes, then people die. I know not everyone made it back from Kobol. I heard about Crashdown. I saw Ensign Davis was crying in the remembrance halls. This…this is just so frakked up! We were only playing cards with him two nights ago. Are…are you okay, Doctor? Were you there when it happened? Did you see him…?”

Gaius swallowed hard. “He gave his life in the finest tradition of the service.”

Gaeta exhaled and nodded, seeming comforted by the thought that Crash had died honourably. Gaius knew different and he could only hope the young soldier had died instantly; that he had no time to realise who had dispatched him.

“When I didn’t see you on the hanger deck, I thought maybe you…” Gaeta winced. “But you’re okay…it’s okay...”

The lieutenant took a calming breath then launched into another outburst.

“Did you hear that Valerii shot the old man?!” he exclaimed in a new rush of hysteria. “She’s one of them, Doctor. She’s a cylon! One of the sleeper agents I think. She didn’t seem to realise what she was doing. I…I don’t understand how this could have happened. We tested Valerii, didn’t we? Her results were clear! I’m sure of it. How could we have cleared her?! How could we…" He shook his head. "The Commander’s still in a critical condition, Doctor. It’s all so terrible. It’s all my faul…”

In one swift movement, Gaius reached out a hand, cupped the back of Gaeta’s neck and then pressed his lips down hard against his mouth. His first motivation for the kiss was a simple one. He just couldn’t abide the sound of Gaeta’s wittering voice any longer. He didn’t want to hear about their failures over the cylon testing. He had little concern for Commander Adama’s recovery after the prophecies that the Six had revealed to him on Kobol. Gaius wanted Gaeta to shut up about these things. He wanted a moment’s peace from it all.

But more than that…Gaius realised he had been pushing all his frustrations down into the pit of his stomach. He had pushed them down so low they were now quietly raging in his loins. Gaius could feel his whole body throbbing and straining for release from that frustration. So he forced Gaeta’s lips apart. He ran his tongue over his teeth...

Yes, he was a man now. He was a man with murder in his heart and blood on his hands. He was predatory. He was savage. He needed something to devour.

“Doctor Baltar…” Gaeta's muffled voice gasped out.

The young officer broke away from his impulsive kiss, staggering back, his cheeks flushing and his eyes dazed. From his expression you would have thought that Gaius had just bitten him. He hadn't seen the lieutenant look so startled since the time he had cornered him in the toilet stalls to harass him about the Godfrey photograph.

“I…I need to get back to the bridge…” he stammered.

Gaeta nodded his head several times, inwardly confirming this to himself. It seemed he was dealing with the kiss by not acknowledging it had even occurred, as if it would be improper to mention such a thing.

Gaius clung to his sleeve, his nails digging into the fabric.

Stay…” he breathed, trying to reel him in closer.

“No!” Gaeta yelled, tugging himself free. “I can’t frakking stay! I’m on duty. I have to go back. I promised Dee I would only be fifteen minutes. I’ve already been more like twenty minutes! It…it’s crazy up there, Doctor. Everything’s frakked up! The Colonel has just declared martial law. Now he’s off boozing and frakking with his wife again. He’s leaving me with the mess! The angry calls, the protest threats…these people don’t understand I’m just following orders! It...it’s so frakked up!!”

Gaeta’s words echoed in his damaged ears. Gaius had known the young officer for several months now but he didn’t think he had ever heard him speak so many words or heard him cursing in so many sentences. Everyone has their limits. Gaius exhaled, shaking his head. He was beginning to feel irritated by Gaeta in return. The boy had come barging into his rooms…for what? A cuddle and a sympathetic ear? Frak that. Gaius had quietly decided that Gaeta's troubles were nothing compared to the trauma he had been put through on that planet. If Gaeta was now invading his private quarters then Gaius wanted him quiet and naked and face down on his mattress. If that wasn't on the cards then Gaeta could get back to his precious duties for all he cared. He didn't wish to listen to any more of this tedious whining.

"Very well,” Gaius blurted. “Don't let me keep you, Mr Gaeta."

Gaeta fell silent, recovering his breath and still lingering in spite of his dismissal. He looked regretful now as if his fierce dedication to his post had robbed him of an opportunity that he feared would never come to him again. Gaius could taste it on his lips. Gaeta wanted this as much as he did. No, he wanted it more...

"There...there just isn't time, Doctor..." he said sheepishly. “It wouldn’t be fair to Dee. She hasn’t had any rack time in hours. She’s exhausted. Neither of us has been off-duty for…for…”

Gaeta faltered and squinted at his watch. It seemed he had now lost track of exactly how long he and Dualla had been stuck on the bridge, trying to hold things together while their commanding officer was off sucking from his bottle. It seemed this loss of order was throwing Gaeta into turmoil. The lieutenant swayed and stared numbly. He was weary. He was vulnerable. Gaius could have taken advantage of this and finished his conquest if he wanted. He decided he better not though. He too feared for the fleet if Felix Gaeta was not on watch in the CIC.

"Back to work, Lieutenant," Gaius said sharply, using his rank to snap him into focus, something that Roslin had advised him to do with the military crew when they were losing their nerve.

It had the desired effect. Gaeta blinked and pulled himself together.

“Right away, sir,” he said, even though he was under no obligation to call Gaius ‘sir’.

With that, Gaeta turned on his heels and marched swiftly out of his sleeping quarters. Gaius was left alone once more in his room that seemed even emptier than it had done before.

"You scared him,” said a voice by his side. “Be careful, Gaius. You’ll be needing him later. Your paths are aligned together.”

Gaius turned to see his Six leaning her back against the wall. She was still dressed in the heavy black jacket that made her look more like a philosopher than a temptress. You scare me, Gaius thought moodily and he knew that she could read the fear inside his head, like his mind was a sheet of Braille.

Why was the Six being so stern and serious with him these days? She used to enjoy the thrill of seduction as much as he did. They had been sexual hedonists together. Six had made no secret of her own attractions towards certain women on the ship and she had often said that she was curious to see him with another man. While they both knew that Gaius preferred the ladies, he had confessed to her that he had some modest experience with his own sex. Why, at the tender age of seventeen he had given a blow job to his comprehensive school teacher just to get the old pervert to sign his scholarship papers. Not much of a liaison; more a case of Gaius getting to his knees and thinking of Caprica. But there had been other more pleasurable incidences since then. Yes, some of those wilder parties where gender lines had become blurry over one too many drinks and one too many naked bodies cramming the mattress space.

But with Gaeta it was different. He was a challenge, a peevish little challenge. Gaius couldn’t for the life of him understand why the lad was being so troublesome to get into bed. It was clear that Gaeta adored him. Truly he was more enamoured of him than most of the women he had slept with in his life. So why wasn’t Gaius being allowed the same caresses and indulgences that he usually enjoyed with those who were besotted with him?

“Don’t worry,” said Six, her voice softening. “He’s still your friend, Gaius. I dare say you’ll have your way with him next time. He may not be a woman, but he has a secret beauty of his own...even if you don’t see it yet.”

Gaius lowered his head and shuffled towards her, hoping that she might take him in her arms and guide him to his bunk. Six sidestepped his advances, wrinkling her nose and regarding him with a critical eye.

“You should shower, Gaius,” she advised. “They’ll be calling you soon.”

Six’s tone was blunt enough to let Gaius know that she would not be joining in the wash room. She sat at his couch, pursing her lips and resting her chin on her knuckles. Gaius undressed in front of her, not even caring to hide his poor neglected erection. Six paid him no further attention as he slipped into the shower cubical. For the first time Gaius decided it was a good thing the water on this ship was always frakking cold.

Great story! I can totally see it happen on the show. I never thought about the fact that Baltar would have been quite out of it after that episode. And that Gaeta would want to check on him. It makes so much sense, though!

It seemed this loss of order was throwing Gaeta into turmoil.

This made me giggle. Talk about stating the obvious.

Also, I love that Baltar got a scholarship by way of a blowjob. He totally would. It's interesting that he didn't just become a scientist by virtue of being a genius. That's another thing I've never thought about before, but which makes sense immediately.

Thanks! Early S2 was a fraught time for both of them yet we don't see them interact (though we do get a "I wish Doctor Baltar was here" from Gaeta). It's nice to imagine that they had a reunion. Who else would worry over Gaius?

It's interesting that he didn't just become a scientist by virtue of being a genius.

Well, in his hometown of Cuttles Breath Wash his 'genius' might not have been recognised and appreciated. Gaius usually gets by on a mixture of brains, cowardice and sexual conquests.

Aww, I love this!

Oh Gaius, you're such a selfish little asshole and you just don't realize it, but I loves you anyway. ^_^

Thanks!! Yes, I can't help feeling the same about despicable but loveable Gaius.

Gaius is like a train-wreck that you just can't take your eyes off of. I can totally see this happening. Gaius grumbling, and Felix falling apart.

he has a secret beauty of his own...

Six is SMRT.

Thank you so much for catching up! Yeah, the Felix/Gaius story is very much a train-wreck, but they are both great characters to write for, as is Six! Gaeta's secret beauty will shine through though.

Great to see Felix and Gaius falling apart like this and looking at their ways of dealing with stress and trauma. Dialogue and attention to details is spot on!

Thanks lune! I certainly don't get bored of writing these two characters. They are both so preciously odd! Lots of stress and trauma to come.

AAAAH, I love this series. I totally missed the first one (went back and read it now) and I'm just blown away. Pitch-perfect dialogue and characterization. I can't wait to see more.

Thanks!! So glad you are enjoying the series. Your Baltar/Gaeta and Baltar/Head-Six vids are a great inspiration for me.

Yay- it's up!

I love the ending you added here. Your instincts were right on with Six. I love the bit about the scholarship, too. Very opportunistic :)

Like I said in my beta, one of my favorite things you're doing with this is the line you're walking with Gaeta. He's a sensitive character, and rather... not weak, but not warriorlike in ways, and you're bringing that across without making him seem girly or feminine. It's very believable and you're doing it beautifully.

Looking forward to part 3!

Thanks! Thats a great comment. I think AJ walks this fine line very well with his performance. Gaeta's not a macho guy. He is prissy in his manners. But he's never girly or weak.

Looking forward to your OWN pt3!

This continues to be a great companion to my rewatch. I finished this series of eps not long ago and they're still fresh in my mind. I remember how Gaius was ignored on his return and a worried and solicitous Gaeta would have made a great scene. Good thinking!

Thanks pace! My next 4 chapters are all set end of S2/start of S3-ish. There are so many shifts between Gaius/Felix during that missing time. I'm also looking forward to writing Ch.7 which will be a Romo-Baltar interaction discussing his relationship with Gaeta.

Great new chapter! The kiss was unexpected, but worked quite well here. I can certainly see Gaius doing something like that in one of his many selfish-moments. Can't wait to read more, especially from the New Caprica time!

Are you working on any other new BSG stories apart from this B/G series?

falafel_musings: BSG4[info]falafel_musings on October 6th, 2008 08:52 am (UTC)
Thanks again, Kaja. The New Caprica period is gonna be focused on in Chapters 4-6. Well, it's the most interesting time for B/G. The next part is slashy, but, well...it won't last!

I've got ideas for other BSG fics (see my WIPs - http://falafel-musings.livejournal.com/5805.html#cutid1 ) but this series is easier to fit around my novel writing. I do really want to write my Chief fic sometime. I might give up on my Baltar + Headpeople fic. It was based on my old theory that Gaeta is the final cylon, but I don't believe in it any more.

Oh, did you catch my Anders-Gaeta fic?

Ah well, you know, it wouldn't be realistic and true to the show if they had a happily ever after, so bring the angst on, hon! :D

A Chief fic would be great! And if you really don't feel like writing your Baltar/Headpeople story then don't trouble yourself with it. You'll have other great new ideas soon enough. I've given up on my Kara/Lee, too, because I totally lost my feeling for that ship. It doesn't make too much sense continuing a story or a vid if you don't support the character, ship or general idea of it anymore.

Oh, did you catch my Anders-Gaeta fic?

No, I must've missed that one, too. I'll read it when I get back home from work ;)

Aww, poor Gaius, and poor Felix. I love Gaius (trying?) to be aggressive. There's something really fleeting about this moment, like neither one of them will have quite these emotions anytime soon, Gaeta particularly is in a rough spot. This is such a good moment and I love your treatment of it, how certain moments are terribly humorous in situations that should be dire, but how that's just right.

Awaiting the next one.
falafel_musings: BSG2[info]falafel_musings on October 6th, 2008 08:05 pm (UTC)
Thanks so much for R&Ring! Yes, I do think it's a fleeting moment for them both. Gaius *trying* to be aggressive is a good assessment. He's not used to having to work so hard for sex. It must seem absurd to him.
Sabbath: Gaeta_Baltar_Double[info]millari on October 7th, 2008 04:50 am (UTC)
How interesting! Did we see the Kobol crew's homecoming on Galactica? I don't even remember. But I'm sure no one was particularly paying attention to Baltar, especially since his Cylon detector had been shown to be a dud. But those Kobol people went through some pretty serious hell and yeah, I can see Baltar feeling pretty traumatized. He seemed it on Kobol, even before he shot Crashdown. And I loved the bit where he just looks at Head!Six and feels afraid, but in this very distant, still shellshocked way. All throughout this fic, you do a good job of portraying Baltar's shell shock, as well as Gaeta's babbling, panicky version of it. Still, while I don't think Gaeta isn't going through a lot and isn't justified in kind of falling apart, he hasn't had his life directly threatened the way Baltar the Kobol folks did, so I can actually kind of understand Gaius' point of view here - that Gaeta's unraveling is kind of tedious in comparison to what he's been going through - even if he is a cold-hearted, opportunistic jerk about it.

The kiss surprised me, but I totally bought it as Baltar one-tenth trying to seduce Gaeta, nine-tenths trying to make him stop talking. And I like how you connected the move to his vicious tutelage on Kobol at the foot of Head!Six, all that stuff about be a man and be true to your aggressive, predatory human nature.

And Gaeta's reaction is humorous, uncomfortable and satisfying, all at once. I'm not quite sure how you accomplished all that. :) I like that he's pissed off at Tigh and that he's conscious that he and Dee have had the fate of everything dumped on their not-completely-qualified shoulders. And of course, I love his hugging Baltar in relief (reminiscent of the adorably impulsive "Hand of God" hug) that Baltar made it back, which has all the more pathos for hearing this scene from Baltar's perspective: Gaeta's reacting to their reunion like Baltar's his closest friend or a family member, (or a lover) and Baltar just wants him face down in his bed, (ouch!) And yet, Baltar is being more and more ensnared, methinks, by the "peevish little challenge" Gaeta is presenting him with. I have to wonder what will happen when he finally beds him (I mean, other than a lot of angst...)

Btw, I love Shipper Head!Six It's a neat touch to have her giving the Baltar/Gaeta relationship a prophetic importance. It's one way to explain the way these two just can't quite seem to let go of each other!

Look forward to the next chapter. New Caprica, yay!

falafel_musings[info]falafel_musings on October 7th, 2008 02:48 pm (UTC)
I don't believe we did see the Kobol teams return. But both I think Baltar and Gaeta were really shaken up after the events of early S2. I'm sure Baltar would deem his own trauma to be worse, but poor Gaeta did witness Adama's shooting and was at the centre of the chaos that followed. Even though Gaeta was the main person who held it together (more so than Tigh) at the same time, he was an overwelmed kid, out of his depth. In this scene I think Gaeta wanted some friendy reassurances. But Baltar just turns it all around and gets frustrated that Gaeta isn't fulfilling his own needs.

I'm pleased if the kiss came off as both surprising and believable. That's what I was going for. I think the kiss was something that Gaeta hadn't expected or hoped for, so when it came he's too shocked to respond. That kiss will plant a seed in Gaeta's mind, a desire for "something more", but at this time he thinks he has blown his chances. Baltar on the other hand is just flumoxed that Gaeta is being so difficult when his conquests are usually so easy.

Thank you so much for your feedback! You are (in my eyes) the greatest authority on Baltar/Gaeta on LJ. It's very encouraging to have your support, because you understand these characters so insightfully. Onto New Caprica!
Sabbath: Kobol[info]millari on October 7th, 2008 09:05 pm (UTC)
That's a good point about Gaeta witnessing the shooting of the Old Man. Actually, thinking back to that scene, I'm reminded of how incredibly together Gaeta is in that scene. It used to make me wonder if he was a Cylon. :) In that part where they go to slo-mo, you can see Gaeta in the background of the shot, and I was always so impressed with him there. While everyone's freaking out (Lee understandably sobbing over his father's body; Dee holding Adama's hand and about to cry; Tigh standing there shocked and maybe staunching the wound, I can't remember...) you can clearly see Gaeta in the background, immediately on the phone doing something responsible, probably either setting Condition One throughout the ship or else maybe calling for medics. His eyes are looking everywhere, assessing the situation, thinking one step ahead of himself. And yet he looks utterly shocked too. Your view of him here makes a lot of sense in that context - that he'd react with duty first, going straight into protocol, but then after he's had some time to process, totally start to unravel. And yeah, there's no evidence that as a soldier, he'd ever dealt with anything nearly this intense on his own volition. Even when the Attacks happened, he had the comfort of simply following his superiors' orders. And I suppose he could have momentarily wondered if his own life was in danger from Sharon's gun, but I doubt that he would have even be able to think of that until the threat was already contained. I think his trauma is more about the future, about how the hell is he going to manage without a leader, whereas Gaius' trauma is more about what has already happened to him.

So I guess I'm saying, yeah, Gaeta has certainly some trauma bragging rights, because he is out of his depth, once he has ten seconds to really think about it; but I'm not sure he was in direct fear of his life. So while Gaius is usually whiny and self-important about his own traumas, in this case, I think I get where he's coming from, even though he is kind of jackass about it. Certainly, Gaeta just wanted some reassurances. I think he wanted them especially from Baltar because at that point, Baltar's the only authority figure left standing that Gaeta respects. The more I think about it, the more I realize that his relief here at Baltar's survival has got to be about relief that the Fleet's greatest mind has survived this crisis. Because in Gaeta's mind, with Adama out of commission, Baltar has got to be the Fleet's best hope for outwitting whatever Cylon plot Sharon's activation might be unfolding. And yeah, it makes a lot of sense that Gaeta would be too shocked to respond to Baltar's kiss, because right now, he's not even thinking that way. It must have felt like having your house burning down and instead of coming up with an action plan for saving you from the flames, the fireman is standing in the middle of it all insisting on putting the moves on you. :) Gaeta's all like, "OMGWTF? I'm counting on you to KNOW WHAT TO DO, not act like a horny teenager while the world falls apart around us!"

Yeah, the more I think about your explanation, the more I really like it. And of course Baltar doesn't get it. Lord knows if he would get it under normal circumstances....

You're welcome for the feedback. I'm really enjoying watching this story unfold. Thank you for the flattering compliment. One of the things I love about this pairing is that their character choices continually surprise and intrigue me, so it's nice to hear myself be considered an expert, instead of just obsessive. ;)

Btw, would you ever consider doing a beta for me when RL isn't intruding so much? I feel like you're quite thoughtful about these two and could give me some valuable feedback. (No pressure if that just doesn't seem do-able. It probably wouldn't be for a while though, if that helps.)

Actually, thinking back to that scene, I'm reminded of how incredibly together Gaeta is in that scene

Gaeta was awesome in the first few eps of S2. Sure, he makes mistakes, but everything was so crazy. Other than that he's busy solving all the problems and picking up the slack. Not that he gets any real credit for it. I love how Gaeta snaps at Tigh and Adama when they start bitching to him about the cylon virus. Gaeta's one of those poor guys who can do a 100 things right but his superiors only notice when he gets one thing wrong. It must be so frustrating. I love seeing Gaeta blow his top. It feels very cathatic and necessary.

No, I don't think Gaeta has been in many life-threatening combat situations. When he gets shot in the leg he doesn't take it with a soldierly stocism. Not to say he's a wimp, just that it wasn't something he was prepared for. He's usually safe with his computers, Dradis and FTL drives.

Gaeta just wanted some reassurances. I think he wanted them especially from Baltar because at that point, Baltar's the only authority figure left standing that Gaeta respects. The more I think about it, the more I realize that his relief here at Baltar's survival has got to be about relief that the Fleet's greatest mind has survived this crisis. Because in Gaeta's mind, with Adama out of commission.

Ooh, this is why I love your feedback! Because you often point out things to me that are spot on, even though I hadn't fully contemplated them when writing the fic. Yeah, I think Gaeta's hug was mostly friendly concern, but also that need for an authority figure who he respects ("I wish Doctor Baltar was here") with the Old Man out of action.

I'd be happy to beta for you! I had to bow out of betaing 'Youths Final Luxury' only because it was so long and I didn't have time to do a proper job. But I'd be fine for a oneshot fic. Have you any WIPs at the moment?

No kidding. If he wasn't such a good guy (and kinda buddies with Helo), it would totally, justifiably grind Felix's gears that Helo gets promoted left and right for I'm not sure exactly what (except the Old Man favors him, and he's competent at his job), while Felix just gets passed over again and again. I mean even Dee has gotten promoted to freakin' XO on Pegasus and how many times has she saved their collective asses? (I love the girl, but the answer is NONE.) Gaeta has saved them so many times and performed so pitch perfectly in crises, it's truly criminal that he has stay FOTW and a LT for so long. I suppose the reason they keep him down is because who else would plot all their jumps if he was promoted up and out of his job? And I suppose where else is there for him to go, other than XO? But they could have least given him the satisfaction of a higher title!! And they probably wanted to send him out of the CIC after he blew the whistle on Tigh and Dee anyway; he totally should have been promoted to Lee's XO on the Pegasus, instead of his darn wife (although it's cool to see a woman XO, so I'm torn...) But then again, this story makes me wonder. Maybe he doesn't quite have the leadership skills to be an XO (but then, neither does Helo, as evidenced by his lousy job controlling Pike and his rabbly pilots on the basestar.

Whew! Sorry to ramble like a nutter there!

Gaeta's one of those poor guys who can do a 100 things right but his superiors only notice when he gets one thing wrong. It must be so frustrating.

Yeah, ditto. (See above)

Boy does it ever! I'm pretty sure that's why writing that Baltar/Gaeta crack memo!fic was so easy and quick to write: it was immensely satisfying to have Gaeta lose his shit, especially at the guy who most deserves it. :)

Thanks for the openness to beta'ing. I really appreciate it.

Well, I'm trying to finish this epically long B/G fic, but I won't hassle you with that, because it's waaay long and probably needs some merciless cutting. But I have some ideas I'd like to tackle in the next month or two, neither of which are written yet, but are at the outline stage. One is a B/G one that takes place on ship, the one I alluded to when answering your Big Damn Questionaire.™ The other is a Felix/Caprica fic that would take place in the brig in late S3 or maybe S4.

As I said, neither are written yet, I'm just putting out the feelers. They would both be oneshots, although the Felix/Gaius one might very well be a long oneshot.

Felix moved down to New Caprica. Helo stayed aboard the Galactica. I think Adama still has a bit of chip on his shoulder about that. And just to extend on the 'Baltar ruined Gaeta's life' theme, I do think Gaeta's history with Baltar has put a big old crimp on his career.

However, I got the S4.0 DVDs today and there is a deleted scene where Adama is angry and questioning the Demetrius crew over how Felix got shot. It's good to know that the Old Man cares. Even so I think you may be right that Felix is so good as a navigator that Adama doesn't want to move him up.

Those fics sound great! I'm open to betaing either/both.
